When you have a persistent urge or nagging thought that makes you want to do something, guess what? You’re meant to do it. No matter how scary or unsure it seems. That uncomfortable yet exhilarating feeling indicates you are breaking free of your mental limitations. Finally, you are trusting yourself and leaving nothing to spare.
We simply are not ready to hear the message a lot of the time. And that is completely okay. It will take time and trial and error. Things we deem coincidences will continually appear until one day, you will connect the dots and understand what you are meant to do. That is where the magic begins. The ideas will begin to unravel, and you will feel as though a stream of strength has been poured within you, giving you momentum and reassurance that your idea is meant to be. Hold on to the feelings you experience in these moments, as they will be needed to drive you forward.
Life is not always easy
So here you are at the starting point of your new venture. You’ve finally said yes and are excited, eager, and confident you can succeed. Then, every so often, you hear your own or others, voices of doubt. You begin to question your availability, your decisions, and the things that could go wrong.
Moving past hesitation
Do trust and remember that those same thoughts are the ones that brought you down and held you back from what you wanted to begin with. You've already done the hardest part by agreeing to say yes to your dreams!
I like to think of doubt as an extended alternative to excitement. Sometimes, when we feel strong emotions of happiness and need more ways to channel that energy, we begin to think of what would happen if we weren’t doing what we wanted. Only to show how much you want to achieve your goals and prove to yourself your fullest capability. At this point, we can only climb up the mountain. Take deep breaths and steadily walk through the obstacles that present themselves. Why? Because, alas,
“This too shall pass.” -King Solomon
Realigning focus
Here, I will outline some strategies you can use to clear your focus and go after what you want. Because at the end of the day, you are worthy of all that you desire!
1. Start by making a list of what you are looking to do. List everything your venture entails, down to the last detail. Then, write down how it will make you feel. What are the emotional gains that will be obtained? Will you feel proud and accomplished? Will it develop your social skills? Who will you be because of it?
2. Write down what is required for you to get started. What will you need, what do you have, and who will you speak to? Make sure to include all possible necessities for you to be successful. Then, write a heading titled “limitations.” These should include any perceived mental or physical limitations. As you write down what is stopping you from moving forward, near it, write the solution or positive outlook. This will help you work towards feeling good, contrary to the limitation you have written. For example, you’ve written down the fear of judgment. The positive outlook may be, “I am afraid of judgment, but I know that I will inspire others.”
3. Once you have completed the exercises, take a visual scan of all that you have written. Do you notice anything? Is it clear that nothing is stopping you from taking the leap? Do your written goals and plans excite you? When you outline a limitation, does the solution seem manageable? Truly, the only thing stopping you is you.
My response to common mental blockages:
"Momentary issues can be solved. Fear is an illusion. Support can be given. Inspiration can be found."
We often do not stop to consider what we want and what we are willing to do to achieve it. Letting go of mental blockages is a crucial and pivotal step to achieving anything in life. From trying new food, taking initiative, or finishing a course, we are the makers of our reality.
In closing
It has been so lovely having this conversation about taking the leap. I hope you feel liberated, free, and expansive. Whatever it is you wish to do, please know that you can! If nothing else, I believe in you. And until next time, may we bask in the glory and laugh on the journey.
